SUV Choices According To Your Lifestyle

SUV’s are as diverse as the people who buy them. For instance, if you have a beard, and live on the side of a mountain, you can have a Nissan Xterra. If you belong to the PTA, and all your children have cell phones, then a leather-lined GMC Acadia might be more your speed.

Whatever your lifestyle, there’s an SUV to match it. So to pick the right one, you have to look at how you’re going to use it.

Where Do You Plan To Do Most of Your Driving?

If you’re like most SUV owners, you live in the city, and you rarely venture off-road. For this reason, a CUV will offer you a smoother ride, and far better MPG’s around town. Similarly, if you live in snow-country, the occasional snow drift can be easily handled by a FWD or AWD CUV.

If you live in a rural area, and require a moderate amount of off-road capability, then a traditional body-on-frame SUV would probably suit you best.

Do You Plan To Do Much Towing?

If all you ever tow is say; a bass boat, or a small utility trailer, then a mid-sized to full-sized CUV is all that you’ll need. When properly equipped (i.e. AWD & a towing package), these car-based SUV’s can tow as much as 5,000 lbs.

However, if you do a lot of towing, a more traditional ladder-framed SUV will offer you much more in the way of towing capacity, and overall performance under a heavy load.

How Much Room Do You Really Need?

The typical SUV buyer is usually a very busy person. Family, work, friends, they all require a bit of our time. They require us to do stuff for them too. So if you ever want to get home, and spend some quality “me” time, you have to get things done. And that’s what most people say their SUV does for them, it helps them to get things done.

You can ferry 5 boys to football practice, while their sisters wait in the third-row, to be dropped off at ballet. Once that’s done, you’ve got just enough time to swing by the Food Mega-Mart to pickup groceries, pickup the family dog Mr. Barkles from the vet, then go back to gather the kiddies up, before making the stop light-riddled journey back to your McMansion in the burbs.

I’m tired just writing that.

Of course, that’s an over-dramatized depiction of the typical SUV owner. In truth, they appeal to everybody, men, women, rich, poor. Nearly everyone could find “stuff” to cram into an SUV. So think about what you’re going to be using the SUV to carry.

If your cargo is of the two-legged variety, make sure that there’s enough room to seat everybody comfortably. Adult passengers will be more comfortable in the back two rows, when riding in larger SUV’s like the Ford Explorer, or Chevrolet Tahoe. Children & teenagers will find ample room in just about any other 7 Seater SUV.

If you plan to use your SUV in a more traditional sense, off-road themed utes like the Toyota FJ Cruiser, or Nissan Xterra offer things like plastic-lined cargo areas (ideal for transporting muddy boots, or wet gear), special stowage compartments, and roof racks, making them the ideal companion for an outdoor adventure.
