SUV Buyers’ Guide

When you first got your drivers license, you probably didn’t care much about what you were driving. You just wanted to get out there and drive.

Getting your license meant that you had ascended from passenger to driver. The destination was now yours to choose. If you wanted to go to the mall, or the arcade, you could just turn the wheel, press the gas pedal and go!

Sure, you had to have dad’s 19 ft long, wood-sided station wagon back home by 10:30, but the freedom was exhilarating.

Fast forward a few decades, and well, driving may have become more of a necessity than a privilege. And if you have a family, your vehicle choice may depend on more than just good looks, and a fun drive.

Now, you have to consider how many kids, dogs, soccer balls, baby strollers & grocery bags you can cram into your vehicle…at the same time. If you’re still single, then you’re probably concerned with how many dogs, friends, mountain bikes, laundry baskets & wind surfers you can lug around. But the bottom line is, the older you get, the more practical your needs become.

So What Are Your Choices?

A sedan is too confined for most families.

A hatchback would be more practical, but you can’t drive them very far off the pavement. So if you live someplace that has dirt roads, or gets a lot of snow, your travel will be restricted to where a typical sedan can go.

You could of course, opt for a minivan / MPV. But most of those are about as exciting as a two-hour documentary on the “History of Vanilla”.

No, if you’re a person who has a life, and you need a vehicle that can keep up with it, then an ole’ 7-seater SUV is definitely the way to go.

And that brings up our next question, What type of SUV do you need?
