In the last discussion we discussed about the possibilities of SUV being a 7 seater car. But as we had discussed earlier, a MPV can also be categorized under the 7 seater cars tag. By the way, MPV stands for Multi Purpose Vehicle.
A MPV is also called a minivan, people-carrier or people mover. As the name suggests, it actually does it. MPV are always similar to vans but are longer than the usual hatchbacks and sedan and are specifically designed keeping in mind the interior space. MPVs are usually 60-79 Inches tall which is normally taller than any other sedan.
MPVs usually have the seats located higher than other 7 seater cars. This gives a higher H point for MPVs. 7 seats in these MPVs are usually spread out in the pattern 2-3-2, 2-2-3. These 7 seater cars have a sitting posture for the passengers and provide enough legroom. Seats in a MPV can either be in the form of benches or single seats. Design of seating in a MPV is such that they can be removed any time by folding them out and you’ll have sufficient space to keep big things if at all you are using MPV for moving to a different place. And this also helps in a situation where you are not 7 people and you have good number of luggage. At that point of time your 7 seater car would become a good luggage carrier too.
Unlike SUV, MPV are only front wheel drive, and are not 4 wheel drive like the 4×4 vehicles. When it comes to the hind door of the MPV 7 seater cars, it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Usually many of the MPVs would have a backdoor which can be opened to seat the people, and sometimes in some MPV, people have to enter through the side doors to sit in the third row. Now a days many of the MPV have both the door making it easy to load and unload people in 7 seater cars.
When it comes to fuel efficiency, the MPVs are lighter compared to the proper native SUV, and thus reduces stress on the engine. Most of the MPVs have greater fuel economy compared to the general 7 seater SUV cars. But MPV don’t have sturdy framework like that of a SUV and neither can MPV explore a difficult terrain. MPVs are mostly made for the on road trips.
The design of the backdoor also can vary, many of the 7 seater cars have a door that swings open from bottom to top, other have two door system which opens wide and the rest have a single door hinged on one of the sides. Almost all the car brands that make sedans make these 7 seater cars. In India when it comes to 7 seater cars, Toyota Innova rules the road with its maximum possible interior space, and stylish design factor and also the fuel efficiency.
A few examples of good 7 seater cars are Honda Elysion, Pontiac Montana, Proton Exora, Ford C-Max etc. And if you have Audi tt or any other kind of MPVs, then it is advisable that you learn something about the Audi tt wheels so that you’d know what to do when your Audi car gets in trouble.
